Blog test

I have decided today to talk about trout fishing in England.  It is one of my favourite subjects but when I get bored of that I may digress to car parking and milk.

Ice is a problem but only for Christopher as I try to be in Hungerford at that time of the year.

Something I hope not to see
The village is a combination of old and new - no one has yet seen the new.

Better light
Tiffy goes up to Varzuga to keep Christopher sane - results have yet to be convincing.

We spent a fortune building new cabins - now we have to beg to be allowed in them.  Dick Bronks would know what to do - must employ him as a consultant.

Ours or theirs?
Signing off now.

A change in the weather

After four days of really hot weather with a very strong sun, yesterday afternoon saw it starting to could over and last night was quite cold. It is what we have been praying for as it will help hold the water in the tundra and that was evident this morning as the water has dropped five inches.

Jeff

Kitza is also dropping away quickly and whilst still not perfect, they had a much better day yesterday and landed 14. Not as many as we would necessary expect on 22 May but it is good to see the numbers going the right way. They had an early supper and went down to the White Sea where they spent two hours watching Beluga whales playing and feeding just off shore – a great sight and we were all rather jealous of them.

Middle continues to fish exceptionally well and they just finished with 148 in the book. The numbers were very evenly spread across the board but Jeremy B had one of his best days with 16 to his rod. As ever, the home pools are firing on all cylinders and Generator accounted for 41 of those fish – truly and astonishing stretch of water.

Jo
At Lower, we had our best day of the season so far and landed 41 fish to our 10 rods. Jo A and Jeff G did account for a large proportion of those having had a bonanza at Jannaways and they landed 18 between them in their morning session. Jo, a Norwegian who has fished pretty much all over Norway, had to take a few moments to compose himself in the evening as he took in his days fishing – "What a place" is all we could really get out of him for 30 minutes.

Some of the rods went to the village in the evening to look around the church and to get an impression of what it must be like to live up here, especially in the winter, tough was the overriding view.

As always seems to be the case, the end of the week has raced upon us and there will be no blog tomorrow as we fly up to Murmansk and meet our new guests. Predictions are dangerous things up here but it does look as though they will have an excellent week with the river dropping nicely and the numbers starting to build.

Henny testing CR's instructions

Lovely sunny day copy and paste copy and paste.

here's a sample caption
The 2011 fly fishing season has just started on some of our rivers and as always, is the prelude to "Duffers Fortnight" the main mayfly season. This wonderful event runs from mid-May to the first week in June and varies from river to river.

2nd caption testing testing

The mayfly season starts with the first emerges, goes into the frenzy of the Dun hatches and ends with the most tantalising fall of spinners. It is quite simply the fishing that every fly fisher aspires to at some time during their fishing career whilst even the most experienced fisherman can find some wonderful challenges’ within this now legendary period.

Test

For the 2008 season we are once again delighted to be offering private beats for groups or individuals on the rivers that truly are the home of dry fly fishing. These include the Test and its famous tributaries, and the Avon, Itchen, Nadder and Wylie. It is always advisable to book your chalkstream fishing early to maximise your choice, mid May to early June is always particularly busy.

Big fish

Fishing on a chalkstream is an excellent and cost effective way of entertaining friends or business partners; a chance to relax, chat, enjoy the river and wildlife and of course to have an excellent lunch on the bank. A day for six guests would be in the region of £2,500 + VAT

Another great day at Pana

Despite a wet start to the summer the mayfly hatches were still abundant on most rivers, the trout and our fishermen took full advantage of this. May is always a wonderful time to be on the river when trout are usually more than willing to take your artificial fly. June and July continued to produce good catches in quite challenging weather conditions; as is the nature of chalkstreams the water remained almost always clear. When the weather finally settled in August and September the fishing simply couldn’t have been any better, with trout rising from the start of each day until dusk.
